JOEL A. KATZ FILM AND AUDIO PRODUCTION
Over my internship I spent a lot of time at Kennesaw State University in Atlanta GA, in The Joel A. Katz building working on Macs learning how to use video production tools Adobe After Effects and Adobe Premiere. I also got into audio production and learned the basics of the software Pro Tools. These video and audio production systems can be used to create any type of film or audio you can think of. They are used in different fields of industry to create things like commercials, movies, making music/beats, animations, and more. Almost all of the digital media you see is produced through Adobe systems. Throughout my internship I visited different places where they use Adobe. Learning about all of these jobs that need people with these skills really opened up my eyes to a lot of other paths I did not know about before. It made me think about how many different options I really have. Aside from becoming friends with important people in the industry and learning about different ways to reach success I learned the tools I need to master to get to where I want to be. I gained a solid foundation of how to use Adobe Premiere, Adobe After Effects, Pro Tools and Auto Tune Lil Boat. Throughout this internship I have been able to grow my knowledge in many fields and see how my idea of how I am going to make it in this industry might work.
Here is a short meditation video I made in my last week of the trip. I made this video using Adobe Premiere. I am not sure why I chose to make a meditation video I just had a bunch of nature stills so I thought it fit. It just goes to show that you can make any type of video and audio you feel like creating.
Here our some day to day experiences of my trip...
5/1/17
Today was my first day on campus at Kennesaw State University. I was introduced to the faculty and a few of the students at the Joel A. Katz Music & Entertainment Business Program. I sat in on three of the classes about video and audio production and watched the students present their final projects for the year. I was introduced to Chris De La Torre. He works with Adobe after affects and Adobe Premiere to produce videos as well as an introduction to mixing music and making beats from Winston. I also got my hands on a little camcorder the Canon vixia hfm32 which I started to learn how to use.
5/2/17
Today was my birthday. 17 years of age. My aunt and I drove through downtown Atlanta and I filmed some city life. I made a short stop at the skate park but decided not to film. We ate burgers at Stax Burgers in Roswell, GA for dinner. They were very good and the vanilla milkshake was even better!
5/3/17
Today I learned how to set up a video shoot with the green screen, lights, a tripod, and a Panasonic AVC camera which is full HD. I also uploaded my footage from yesterday to an external hard drive on the computer in the Mac Lab studio. After that I began importing my footage to Adobe after effects and started to teach myself how to add some basic affects to my footage. I also skated around the school campus and explored the area.
5/4/17
Today I stayed in the Mac lab mostly watching You Tube videos on Adobe Premier and tried to apply that new knowledge to my sample videos that I had filmed a few days before. I am starting to become more acquainted with the students and faculty in the Joel A. Katz building where I spend most of my time.
5/5/17
Today I met with Marc Francis, Director of Videography for Kennesaw State University. We set up the Panasonic AVC camera and filmed a commercial type of video for Achieve Music, which is a music teaching computer program. We then uploaded the footage to Adobe Premiere where Marc Francis gave Winston and I a demonstration of what it looks like to be a professional at Adobe Premiere. I asked Marc a bunch of questions and took some notes in my notebook. I was really surprised with the final product because Marc made a good video with what I thought was below mediocre filming.
5/6/17
Today I woke up around lunch then I ate lunch. After an eventful morning I headed to Kennesaw, GA and visited Swift-Cantrell park to check out their skate park and try and get some footie. The skate park in Kennesaw is incredible!!! It's made by Street League Skateboarding which is basically like the Olympics of skateboarding. They had a massive street plaza section, a massive pool, and a big bowl all for skateboarding! I introduced myself to a couple of random people who I thought were good and filmed some tricks for them with the smaller Canon camcorder.
5/7/17
Today I didn't do much I took gillie on a walk with my aunt and went shopping. I got a dope new pair of Vans. We went to Keith's moms house for another delicious dinner and birthday cake.
5/8/17
Today I took a campus tour of Kennesaw State University it has a much bigger campus than I realized. The tour guide explained how the school has doubled in size in the past decade. They have three campus one here in Kennesaw one in Marietta and one in Tuscany, Italy. After my campus tour I came back and uploaded my videos that I shot at the the skate park on Saturday and put them into Adobe Premiere. After that I met Cory who makes beats. We swapped beats that we liked and talked about different editing soft wear such as logic pro. At the end of the day Winston and I started to play with auto tune and freestyle rap to the mic.
5/9/17
Today I started off my day by going outside and filming some wildlife. I filmed a squirrel that I named Squantchy for about 20 minutes then I put into Adobe Premiere and continued to brush up my editing skills. I also sat in on a part of a London class. A London class is there introduction to the mebus class about there study abroad trip to London. They get the opportunity to go to Sony"s film and audio studio in London as well as meet a bunch of people that can help blossom their careers along with many other great opportunities that come with traveling abroad.
